[ARCHIVED] East Lansing Family Aquatic Center to Open Friday, June 3

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The East Lansing Family Aquatic Center (ELFAC), 6400 Abbot Road, will officially open its doors for the 2016 summer season on Friday, June 3. The 2016 season will run through Monday, Sept. 5.

ELFAC is an interactive outdoor water facility that provides a safe aquatic experience to patrons off all ages. Features of the facility include a 190-foot tube water slide, 140-foot body water slide, Splash Park, drop slide, diving board, youth frog slide and a number of interactive water-play structures. ELFAC also features a wet/dry sand play area, large sunbathing deck, zero-depth pool entry and concessions.

ELFAC offers daily, 10-visit and season passes to patrons. Patrons can also purchase combo passes, which can be used at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road, and the Aquatic Center. Group rates and private after-hour rentals are also available.

For the second year in a row, the lifeguard team working at ELFAC and the ELHCC pool received Jeff Ellis & Associates’ prestigious Platinum International Aquatic Safety Award. Based on four unannounced safety audits conducted by Ellis & Associates last year, the award puts the East Lansing lifeguard team in the top 10 percent of all facilities in the country that train under the lifeguarding principles of Ellis & Associates as it relates to aquatic safety.

“We take our patron safety very seriously,” said East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts Aquatic/Athletics Coordinator Jim Jennings. “Our lifeguards are ultimately responsible for the safety of our patrons and are extensively trained in order to make quick, smart decisions in cases of emergency.”

The Aquatic Center will open every day at 11 a.m. weather permitting. Contact the Aquatic Center at (517) 333-2580 (prior to June 3) or 517-332-4420 (after June 3). Visit www.cityofeastlansing.com/AquaticCenter for rates, hours and more information.
