[ARCHIVED] East Lansing Summer Concert Series Kicks off this Weekend with Starfarm and Alex Mendenall

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The City of East Lansing's 2016 Summer Concert Series will kick off this weekend, June 24-25, with live performances by Starfarm and Alex Mendenall from 7-9 p.m. in downtown East Lansing’s Ann Street Plaza (corner of M.A.C. and Albert avenues).

Friday, June 24 – Starfarm
Starfarm is a popular, local 80’s cover band that takes crowds back to the decade of pegged pants, mullets and Aqua Net. Covering all of the most popular songs of the 80’s, Starfarm is sure to have crowds up on their feet dancing and singing to their favorites. The band is always ready to break a sweat, arriving at shows dressed in old school Adidas tracksuits, legwarmers and Aviator sunglasses. Learn more about Starfarm at http://www.starfarmband.com.

Saturday, June 25 – Alex Mendenall
Alex Mendenall is a Lansing-based soul/folk songwriter who has performed in venues across the Midwest and eastern United States. Drawing from folk, soul, funk and jazz, Mendenall’s sound is eclectic, high energy and engaging. His songs feature carefully crafted wordplay, soulful chord progressions and dynamic arrangements of foot percussion. Learn more about Alex Mendenall at http://www.alexmendenall.com/.

The Summer Concert Series features six weekends of live music on Fridays and Saturdays from 7-9 p.m. in downtown East Lansing’s Ann Street Plaza. Community members can find more information about the series, including the entire 2016 lineup, at www.cityofeastlansing.com/summerconcertseries. The concerts will be canceled in the event of rain. Special thanks to the East Lansing Downtown Management Board for sponsoring the Summer Concert Series.

EL Artist Alleys Mural Dedication on Friday, June 24
Prior to the Starfarm performance on Friday, June 24, community members are invited to the dedication of local artist Julian Van Dyke’s public art mural, “The Spirit of East Lansing: Sounds from the Streets,” at 6:30 p.m. in the Grove Street Alley adjacent to Ann Street Plaza.
