[ARCHIVED] City of East Lansing Offers Action-Packed Week of Events

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members can enjoy an action-packed lineup of events the week of July 18 as part of the City of East Lansing’s ongoing Community Events program. All events are FREE!

Play in the Park – Nature Discovery
Play in the Park, an interactive children’s entertainment series, is hosted on Tuesdays in July at 7 p.m. in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court. On Tuesday, July 19, there will be a Nature Discovery program featuring live animals - from snakes to birds - that can be found in local parks. Young participants will also learn how to seek out native plants and animals by looking and listening. Learn more about Play in the Park at http://www.cityofeastlansing.com/playinthepark.

3rd Wednesday Open Mic
The 3rd Wednesday Open Mic series continues on Wednesday, July 20 at 7 p.m. in Ann Street Plaza (corner of Albert & M.A.C. avenues). Local musician, Jen Sygit, will be hosting and encouraging any interested musicians to sign up for a slot. Performers (solo and group acts are welcomed) will have a two-song limit. Musician signup begins at 6:30 p.m. A small PA, cords, pickups and a mic will be provided. Community members who don't wish to perform are still encouraged to come downtown and enjoy the talents of those who get up on the stage.

Moonlight Film Festival – Late Swim at the East Lansing Family Aquatic Center and “The Rookie” at Special Movie Location: East Lansing Softball Complex

The Moonlight Film Festival features movies shown on a big outdoor screen on Thursday nights in July (9:30 p.m.) and August (9 p.m.). New this year, there are activities prior to showtimes that tie into the themes of the movies. On Thursday, July 21, the Moonlight Film Festival will feature “The Rookie,” rated G, at 9:30 p.m. at a special movie location: the East Lansing Softball Complex, 6408 Abbot Road. Prior to the film, community members can enjoy late swimming hours at the East Lansing Family Aquatic Center, 6400 Abbot Road, until 9 p.m. Learn more about the Moonlight Film Festival at http://www.cityofeastlansing.com/moonlightfilmfestival.

Summer Concert Series – Root Doctor, Rachael Davis & Dominic John
The East Lansing Summer Concert Series features six weekends of live music on Fridays and Saturday at 7 p.m. in downtown East Lansing’s Ann Street Plaza (corner of Albert and M.A.C. avenues). The Summer Concert Series will feature Root Doctor on Friday, July 22 and Rachael Davis & Dominic John on Saturday, July 23.
