[ARCHIVED] North Harrison Road Construction Update

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The major street project on North Harrison Road, between Saginaw Street and Lake Lansing Road, is moving along in the City of East Lansing and is tentatively slated for completion by Aug. 19.

This week, July 25-29, the contractor will be completing concrete work that remains throughout the project, including getting started on restoration. Restoration includes backfilling behind curb repairs and around sidewalk replacement locations, along with placement of topsoil. The lowering of manhole covers could also begin in preparation for asphalt milling work scheduled for next week.

Starting today, concrete base repair work will be ongoing immediately north of Saginaw Street. Later in the week, July 27-28, sidewalk ramp repairs and curb replacement is scheduled at the Harrison-Lake Lansing intersection. Traffic will be maintained to the extent possible at both locations. If safety becomes an issue, traffic will be closed off at Lake Lansing Road and/or Saginaw Street; however, both intersections will not be closed at the same time.

Next week, Aug. 1-2, site grading of the gravel base will be ongoing in preparation for asphalt paving. On Aug. 3, the paving of the asphalt base in areas of utility repairs and sub base removals will be completed. Traffic will be restricted at several of the intersections during this time and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes if possible. Local traffic that has been traveling on Harrison Road will be directed to follow the flagging personnel on site to pass around the paving crews.

Later next week, Aug. 4-5, asphalt milling and base paving will continue. This work will be followed by the final course of asphalt being placed Aug. 8-10. The final course of asphalt will be followed by road striping and the completion of the restoration process.

These construction dates are all tentative and dependent on weather. Community members can contact the East Lansing Department of Public Works at (517) 337-9459 with questions.
