EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members can enjoy an action-packed lineup of events the week of Aug. 1 as part of the City of East Lansing’s ongoing Community Events program. All events are FREE!
East Lansing’s National Night Out & Touch-a-Truck
East Lansing’s National Night Out & Touch-a-Truck event will take place Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 6-8 p.m. at the East Lansing Public Library (ELPL), 950 Abbot Road. This popular annual event offers free fun for the entire family, while promoting community safety and awareness. The event will feature interaction with local police officers and firefighters, children’s activities, a visit from Sparty from 6-7 p.m., popcorn, cotton candy and plenty of vehicles for children to explore. Members of the ELPD K9 Unit will also be there to visit with young animal lovers. The library and parking lot will close at 5 p.m. to prepare for this all-ages community celebration. Parking for the event will be available at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.
Moonlight Film Festival – Animal Adoption Event & “Homeward Bound”
The Moonlight Film Festival features movies shown on a big outdoor screen on Thursday nights in July (9:30 p.m.) and August (9 p.m.) in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court. New this year, there are activities prior to showtimes that tie into the themes of the movies. On Thursday, Aug. 4, the Moonlight Film Festival will feature “Homeward Bound,” rated G, at 9 p.m. Learn more about the Moonlight Film Festival at http://www.cityofeastlansing.com/moonlightfilmfestival. Prior to the film, at 7 p.m. in the same location, there will be an Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter Adoption Event.
Summer Concert Series – Deacon Earl & the Congregation, Double Feature: Gifts or Creatures & May Erlewine
The East Lansing Summer Concert Series features six weekends of live music on Fridays and Saturday at 7 p.m. in downtown East Lansing’s Ann Street Plaza (corner of Albert and M.A.C. avenues). The 2016 Summer Concert Series will wrap up this weekend with a performance by Deacon Earl & the Congregation on Friday, Aug. 5 and a double feature on Saturday, Aug. 6 featuring Gifts or Creatures from 7-8 p.m. and May Erlewine from 8-9 p.m. Learn more about the Summer Concert Series at http://www.cityofeastlansing.com/summerconcertseries.
