LANSING, Mich. — The Greater Lansing Area Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission is pleased to be leading a delegation of commissioners and community members to the Grand Opening Celebration of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American Culture and History, taking place on Saturday, Sept. 24 and featuring a keynote address by President Barack Obama. They also plan to revisit the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.
This marks the third delegation sponsored by the City of East Lansing, City of Lansing and MLK Commission. The first two delegations took place in 2011 for the unveiling of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and in 2014 for the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington.
The delegation is scheduled to depart from the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, at 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23. Community members can contact Elaine Hardy at (517) 319-6942 for more details.
