EAST LANSING, Mich. – In an effort to honor those who have bravely served in the United States Armed Forces, the City of East Lansing will be hosting a brief Veterans Day program on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 8:30 a.m. in front of the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road.
There will be a military flag-raising ceremony, during which a bugle call will be made and bagpipes will be played. Being that the ceremony falls on the 241st Birthday of the United States Marine Corps, a moment of silence will also be observed for U.S. Marine Corps Reserve 2nd Lt. Sherrod E. Skinner, Jr. – an East Lansing war hero who received the Medal of Honor posthumously for bravery exhibited during the Korean War. A Medal of Honor Monument was dedicated at ELHCC in November 2013 in 2nd Lt. Skinner’s memory.
Area veterans and all other community members are invited to attend the Nov. 10 program at ELHCC. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
