EAST LANSING, Mich. – Last weekend’s MSU vs. Michigan football game and Halloween celebrations resulted in an extremely busy weekend for the East Lansing Fire Department (ELFD) and East Lansing Police Department (ELPD).
According to ELFD, there were a total of 184 runs made from the evening of Friday, Oct. 28 to the evening of Sunday, Oct. 30. Of the 184 runs, there were 159 calls for Emergency Medical Services, one fire, one service call, seven good intent calls, 14 false calls and two calls that fall into an “other” category. Of the 184 EMS runs, 88 were in response to intoxicated/incapacitated patients. There were five ambulances and three fire trucks staffed for Saturday, Oct. 29 and mutual aid still had to be used 16 times.
According to ELPD, there were a total of 41 arrests, 259 citations issued, 177 reports taken and 1,531 citations issued by Parking & Code Enforcement (PACE) from the morning of Friday, Oct. 28 to the evening of Sunday, Oct. 30. There were a total of 41 ELPD officers, supervisors and administration who worked over the weekend, with extra officers working day shift, night shift, on campus during the game and overnight. There were also 12 officers on duty from the following assisting agencies: Ingham County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol and the Lansing Police Department.
“I would like to thank our officers and firefighter/paramedics as well as the assisting agencies for the work they did this past weekend to keep the East Lansing-MSU community safe,” said East Lansing City Manager George Lahanas. “While we understand the reality of serving a college town, it is important to keep in mind the amount of resources that are tied up during these busier weekends. Not only are these weekends dangerous for those who consume too much alcohol, they can result in response time delays to serious crimes and major medical emergencies elsewhere in the community.”
