EAST LANSING, Mich. – The City of East Lansing and East Lansing Rotary Club will be co-hosting a Remembering Pearl Harbor – 75th Anniversary event on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road.
The program will include a presentation of colors by the Lansing-based 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, 25th Marine Regiment, a keynote presentation from 25th Marine Regiment Col. Samarov and a video produced in 2003, which features the stories of East Lansing-area veterans who were at Pearl Harbor or served in World War II.
“We hope community members will join us for this special Pearl Harbor remembrance event,” said East Lansing Parks, Recreation & Arts Director Tim McCaffrey. “Seventy-five years later, the attack on Pearl Harbor remains one of the deadliest attacks in American history. It’s important for us to continue to honor those who lost their lives and those who bravely fought to protect our freedom on that tragic day and during the war to follow.”
Light refreshments will be served following the program. Additionally, information about the City of East Lansing and East Lansing Rotary Club’s Veterans Monument project will be available.
Veterans Monument Project
Community funds are currently being raised to install a Veterans Monument in front of ELHCC, which will honor all veterans from the East Lansing community who have bravely served in the United States military and memorialize those who gave their lives while serving. With the community’s support, the Veterans Monument will be installed adjacent to the Medal of Honor Monument that was dedicated in November 2013 in memory of U.S. Marine Corps Reserve 2nd Lt. Sherrod E. Skinner, Jr. More information: http://www.cityofeastlansing.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=405.
