[ARCHIVED] ELPD to Host First-Ever Open House for Community

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD), 409 Park Lane, will be hosting its first-ever Open House on Thursday, April 6 from 5-8 p.m. This event is free and open to all community members.

The event will feature demonstrations by the ELPD K9 Unit, a Q&A with ELPD Police Chief Jeff Murphy, station and jail tours, vehicle displays, the ELPD Bike Unit, drunk goggles, children's activities, child i.d. kits, car seat installations/inspections, snacks and much more.

“We are hosting this Open House in an effort to continue to have positive interactions with the community we serve,” said ELPD Lt. Steve Gonzalez. “We hope community members of all ages will consider coming out to meet our officers and learn more about ELPD and what we do. There will be a little something for everyone.”

During the Police Community Forum hosted last fall, community members in attendance asked for more transparency from ELPD. The Open House is another opportunity for open and honest dialogue with the community in a non-traditional setting. In addition to the activities hosted during the Open House, community members in attendance will have an opportunity to fill out an ELPD suggestion/survey card.

ELPD also plans to broadcast the event via Facebook Live for those community members who are unable to attend. Community members can tune in and ask questions at www.facebook.com/EastLansingPD.
