[ARCHIVED] ELPL to Host 6th Annual Books, Bites & Bids Fundraising Event on Friday, April 21

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are invited to the East Lansing Public Library’s (ELPL) 6th Annual Books, Bites & Bids fundraising event, which will be taking place on Friday, April 21 from 5:30-9 p.m. With the library’s interior renovations completed, the event will be returning to ELPL this year, 950 Abbot Road.

This annual fundraiser for ELPL will feature a silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres from Grand Grillin’ and other local restaurants, drinks, live music by The Matt Borghi Group, and children’s activities. ELPL is also excited to announce that Tim Busfield and Melissa Gilbert will be attending the fundraiser this year as special guests.

This year’s silent auction will include an assortment of exciting donated items. A few of the items donated so far include a one-week stay at a Hilton Head condo, two basketballs signed by Tom Izzo, a football signed by Mark Dantonio, a one-night stay at the English Inn, a one-night weekend stay at the East Lansing Marriott, two passes to Common Ground, Lansing Symphony tickets, an entire Coca-Cola Christmas Village, a season ticket package for Lansing United, a beautiful vase from Mackerel Sky, an American Girl doll, East Lansing Family Aquatic Center passes, a variety of gift cards/certificates to a number of local restaurants and businesses, beautiful painted pallets made by ELPL patrons and much, much more.

A tax-deductible donation of $30 per individual and $60 per couple/family is suggested for this event. Community members can RSVP and make their donation ahead of time at www.elpl.org or by visiting the ELPL Information Desk, 950 Abbot Road. Donations can also be made at the door on the night of the event.

Proceeds of this year’s event will go towards the purchase of a PopUp Library – a low-speed, electric vehicle specially customized to transport and display library materials. The PopUp Library will allow ELPL to extend its reach outside of the library walls at special events and locations throughout the community.

“We hope to see a great community turnout at this year’s Books, Bites & Bids event,” said ELPL Director Kristin Shelley. “We have a lot of exciting items coming in every day for the silent auction and we can’t wait to welcome our special guests, Tim Busfield and Melissa Gilbert. A lot of fun is in store for those who plan to attend this special community event in support of the library.”
