EAST LANSING, Mich. — As a part of a carryover from the City of East Lansing’s 2016 hazardous sidewalk contract, a number of sidewalk improvements will be taking place around the community over the next few months, with all work slated for completion by June 30.
Sidewalk work is currently underway at the northeast and southeast corners of the Coleman-Coolidge intersection to update the sidewalk ramps and make them ADA compliant and work will also be taking place on Coleman Road at the Shearwater Lane intersection in the coming weeks.
Following completion of the work on Coleman Road, sidewalk installation work will begin on Lake Lansing Road east of Abbot Road, from the Gaslight Village drive approach to the east City limits. This work will complete the installation of 200 feet of sidewalk that is currently gapped in that location and complete connectivity with Meridian Township.
The contractor will then begin sidewalk replacement work on the east side of Abbot Road, from the East Lansing Fire Department south to approximately 500 feet north of Saginaw Street. This work will help repair a portion of sidewalk that has been damaged due to parkway trees.
Signs will be in place directing pedestrian traffic during the work. In addition to sidewalk closures, intermittent lane closures are expected. Motorists are asked to exercise caution in the areas of work. Community members with questions can contact the East Lansing Department of Public Works at (517) 337-9459.
Additional sidewalk and road work planned for later in the spring/summer 2017 construction season will be announced at a later date.
