[ARCHIVED] ELPL Raising Funds to Bring Pop-Up Library to East Lansing

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) is continuing to raise funds to bring a Pop-Up Library to East Lansing.

Pop-Up Libraries are low-speed, electric vehicles specially customized to transport and display library materials. Bringing a Pop-Up Library to East Lansing will provide ELPL with the opportunity to extend its reach outside of the library walls at special community events and destinations throughout the City.

“The vehicle will allow us to get out in the community and share what we have to offer at places like the East Lansing Farmer’s Market, the East Lansing Family Aquatic Center, schools, senior communities, area festivals and more,” said ELPL Director Kristin Shelley. “Community engagement is such an important part of what we do and we believe this vehicle will make a huge difference in how we better reach the people living in our community.”

This past April, ELPL raised more than $20,000 at its annual Books, Bites & Bids fundraising event for the Pop-Up Library. It was a record amount for the annual event, but a little more than half of the funds still need to be raised to make the Pop-Up Library a reality. With that in mind, community members interested in supporting the fundraising effort can donate a “part” to the library. Community members can give a lugnut for $25, a gas pedal for $150 and/or a tire for $500. Donations of any amount are welcome!

Community members can learn more about supporting the Pop-Up Library at https://www.elpl.org/browse_program/pop-up-library/ or by calling ELPL at (517) 351-2420.
