Construction Adjacent to East Lansing City Hall to Cause Sidewalk and Entrance Closures

EAST LANSING, Mich. – To accommodate the first phase of a construction project planned for East Lansing City Hall, there will be sidewalk closures along Linden Street on the south side of City Hall and along Abbot Road on the west side of City Hall beginning today, June 7. Additionally, the southwest entrance of City Hall will be closed.

A sidewalk detour will be in place for those visiting East Lansing City Hall and there will be free parking in the north lot for those with disability plates or placards. Those with disability plates or placards do not need to make special arrangements; they can just park in the north lot. View a map (PDF) indicating the areas that will be closed during the first phase of construction and the accessible parking/entrance to City Hall.

About the Project
The construction project is anticipated to take eight to 10 weeks to complete and is being staged in three phases to ensure uninterrupted visitor access to East Lansing City Hall. The project will include removing and replacing a large portion of the sidewalks around City Hall, improvements to the north and east parking lots, enhancements to pedestrian and vehicular traffic patterns and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements.

In order to accommodate the work, it will be necessary to close different entrances to City Hall and make temporary adjustments to vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow. Regular updates will be provided as the project progresses.
