EAST LANSING, Mich. – The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) responded to a hit-and-run accident on northbound US 127 near the Trowbridge Road exit just after 8 p.m. yesterday, Aug. 10.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle rolled over on the highway with four occupants pinned inside. The East Lansing Fire Department (ELFD) also responded to the scene to extricate the occupants and provide advanced medical care.
Two of the occupants were transported to the hospital with significant life-threatening injuries. A child in a car seat received minor injuries. Tragically, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. The deceased is a 27-year-old, Lansing man. His identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver who fled the scene was located and stopped on Waverly Road near I-496. This individual sustained non-life threatening injuries and was also transported to the hospital for medical care.
ELPD is being assisted by the Ingham Regional Crash Investigation Team to determine the cause of the crash. Further information will be released upon the completion of the investigation.
