[ARCHIVED] Community Meetings on Income Tax & Property Tax Reduction Ballot Proposals

EAST LANSING, Mich. – East Lansing City Manager George Lahanas is going out into the community to provide presentations on the City’s financial situation as well as facts about the income tax and property tax reduction ballot proposals.

In addition to several scheduled presentations to neighborhood associations, boards and commissions and community groups, there will be two City-wide community meetings this month that community members can attend:

Community Meeting
Tuesday, Oct. 10
10 a.m.
East Lansing Public Library, 950 Abbot Road

Community Meeting
Thursday, Oct. 26
6 p.m.
East Lansing Public Library, 950 Abbot Road

A schedule of all of the City Manager’s upcoming presentations is available at www.cityofeastlansing.com/incometax. Other neighborhood associations and groups interested in requesting a presentation can contact the East Lansing City Manager’s office at (517) 319-6920. Presentations can also be requested by sending an email to Assistant to the City Manager Eilis Seide at eseide@cityofeastlansing.com.

The income tax and property tax reduction proposals are slated to go on the November 7, 2017 General Election ballot. If both proposals pass, approximately $5 million would be generated annually, which would be used to maintain quality services to the community, invest in aging infrastructure, cover legacy costs and prevent additional, deep cuts to areas such as public safety, which makes up 64.8% of the City’s general fund expenditures. Community members can visit www.cityofeastlansing.com/incometax to find additional information about the two proposals, including an FAQ, an Income Tax Calculator and more.
