EAST LANSING, Mich. — Members of the media are invited to a special check presentation for the Greater Lansing Area Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission on Friday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.
Cinnaire will present the MLK Commission with a generous $50,000 check during the special presentation. Additionally, MacDonald Broadcasting will present a $50,000 check (in-kind support), Jackson National Life will present a $15,000 check, Dean Trailways will present a $10,000 check (in-kind support) and Michigan State Federal Credit Union, LAFCU and AT&T will each present $10,000 checks. All members of the media are welcome to attend.
The funding will help support the MLK Commission, which works each year to support equality, diversity and social justice in the Greater Lansing community. Among its many accomplishments, the MLK Commission annually provides scholarships to graduating seniors, hosts essay contests for local middle school students and helps support a variety of community agencies.
The MLK Commission also hosts the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Luncheon each year in tribute to the inspiring civil rights leader. This year’s luncheon will take place on Monday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave. The luncheon’s featured keynote speaker is Dr. Diane Nash – a Freedom Rider, civil rights activist and a founding member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).
