[ARCHIVED] ELPL to Host 7th Annual Books, Bites & Bids Fundraising Event on Friday, April 13

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are invited to the East Lansing Public Library’s (ELPL) 7th Annual Books, Bites & Bids fundraising event, which will be taking place on Friday, April 13 from 5:30-9 p.m. at ELPL, 950 Abbot Road.

This annual fundraiser for ELPL will feature a silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres from Grand Grillin’ and other local restaurants, two giant pies from Grand Traverse Pie Company, drinks, live music and children’s activities. ELPL is also excited to announce that Joe Sam from WILX News 10 will emcee the event and there will be special surprise guest.

This year’s silent auction will include an assortment of exciting donated items. A few of the items donated so far include a basketball signed by Tom Izzo, a football signed by Mark Dantonio, a one-night stay at the English Inn, a one-night weekend stay at the East Lansing Marriott, two passes to the Common Ground Music Festival, Lansing Symphony tickets,  an assortment of paintings by local artists, a season ticket package for Lansing United, a beautiful vase from Mackerel Sky Gallery of Contemporary Craft, an American Girl® doll, East Lansing Family Aquatic Center passes, a variety of gift cards/certificates to a number of local restaurants and businesses, beautiful painted stools made by ELPL patrons and much, much more.

A tax-deductible donation of $30 per individual and $60 per couple/family is suggested for this event. Community members can RSVP and make their donation ahead of time at https://bit.ly/2uhuKVO or by visiting the ELPL Information Desk, 950 Abbot Road. Donations can also be made at the door on the night of the event.

Proceeds of this year’s event will help in raising the remaining funds needed to purchase a Mobile Pop-Up Library – a low-speed, electric vehicle specially customized to transport and display library materials. The Pop-Up Library will allow ELPL to extend its reach outside of the library walls at special events and locations throughout the community, including, but not limited to: festivals, the East Lansing Farmer’s Market, area schools, senior communities and more.

“We hope to see a great community turnout at this year’s Books, Bites & Bids event,” said ELPL Director Kristin Shelley. “We have a lot of exciting items coming in every day for the silent auction and a lot of fun is in store for those who plan to attend this special community fundraiser in support of the library.”
