EAST LANSING, Mich. — In honor of Memorial Day, community members and members of the media are invited to attend a brief wreath-laying ceremony at East Lansing’s Medal of Honor Memorial and Veterans Monument on Thursday, May 24 at 3 p.m. in front of the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.
The City of East Lansing and the Lansing-based 1st Battalion, 24th Marines will be laying wreaths to honor all of the brave men and women who have lost their lives serving in the United States Armed Forces, including U.S. Marine Corps Reserve 2nd Lt. Sherrod E. Skinner, Jr. 2nd Lt. Skinner was an East Lansing war hero who received the Medal of Honor posthumously for bravery exhibited during the Korean War. In addition to the wreath-laying ceremony, the City of East Lansing has posted a list of the East Lansing residents who lost their lives in service to our country on the City website: https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/1886/16768/Remembering-Our-Veterans. While extensive research was done in compiling this list in an effort to honor and remember all of the East Lansing veterans who lost their lives in action, the City recognizes that the list may be incomplete. Community members can email Elaine Hardy, ehardy@cityofeastlansing.com, to report any service members who may be missing from the list.
