EAST LANSING, Mich. — As the 2018 Northern Tier Trail Improvement Project continues, community members are advised that the trail is currently closed along Kalamazoo Street, from Marigold Avenue to Clippert Street, for pedestrian bridge improvements.
The adjacent bike lane is also closed in this area as well as the Lansing River Trail, from Clippert Street to the pedestrian bridge.
Trail users are asked to abide by all posted signs and follow the detour that is in place. The detour follows Clippert Street to Michigan Avenue to Harrison Road to Kalamazoo Street. The work in this area is expected to be completed by late August 2018.
Project Background & Update
The East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts (ELPRA) has been awarded $1,526,089 from the Ingham County Trails and Parks Millage to repair/replace six pedestrian bridges and make surface improvements along the Northern Tier Trail.
Bridge work began in January 2018 and trail resurfacing began in spring 2018. The project is slated for completion in fall 2018.
While much of the work has been completed, improvements are ongoing at the Kalamazoo Street and Albert A. White Memorial Park pedestrian bridges. Completion of the White Park bridge work is expected in September 2018. Additionally, trail resurfacing will recommence be completed in September 2018, causing intermittent closures on the trail.
