[ARCHIVED] Improvements on Mount Hope Road to Cause Lane Closures Next Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Motorists are advised that there will be lane closures/shifts on Mount Hope Road, from the US 127 underpass to MSU Commuter Lot 89, next week for roadway improvements.

Crews will be applying a chip seal on Monday, Aug. 13. During this initial application, which is expected to begin in the morning and take approximately two to three hours to complete, traffic will be shifted to the outside lanes of the roadway and then to the inside lanes of the roadway as work progresses. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during the work. Once completed, the roadway will be fully re-opened to traffic.

Following the initial application, the crews will return later in the week (tentatively planned for Wednesday, Aug. 15) to apply a fog seal. During this work, similar lane closures/shifts will be in place on Mount Hope Road and the Harrison-Mount Hope intersection may be temporarily closed to traffic with detours in place. This scope of work will begin in the morning and should be completed that same day. The roadways will fully re-open to traffic once all work is completed.

Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when driving in the area and seek alternate routes if possible.

This work is being conducted by the Clinton County Road Commission through an interlocal agreement with the City of East Lansing. The chip and fog seal application is a preventative maintenance application that fills cracks, improves skid resistance and extends the service life of the roadway. Community members with questions can contact the East Lansing Department of Public Works at (517) 337-9459.
