EAST LANSING, Mich. – A 30-year-old Mississippi man has been taken into custody on an open murder arrest warrant in connection to a homicide that occurred in the 2500 block of Abbot Road in East Lansing on Friday, Oct. 12.
The suspect was located and arrested without incident in Grove City, Ohio. Authorities are currently working through the extradition process to return the suspect to Michigan. His identity will be released upon his arraignment.
The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) would like to extend its sincere appreciation to the United States Marshals Service offices located in Tunica, Miss. and Columbus, Ohio, and the Ingham County Sheriff's Office for assisting in taking this individual into custody.
Background
At approximately 2:44 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, ELPD responded to a report of shots fired and people fighting in the 2500 block of Abbot Road. Upon the officers’ arrival at the scene, it was determined that there was a victim with a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital and later pronounced deceased. The deceased is 22-year-old Isai Berrones from Alamo, Texas. Berrones was a Michigan State University student.
