EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Fire Department will be conducting ice rescue training next week, Feb. 3-5, at the pond behind the Michigan State University Federal Credit Union headquarters, 3777 West Road.
The training days will include classroom instruction in the mornings, followed by outdoor practical training at the West Road location in the afternoons. The outdoor training will take place from approximately 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. each day.
ELFD conducts this training once a year to keep the City of East Lansing’s firefighter paramedics current on their ice rescue skills. The firefighters will practice self rescue drills as well as rescue drills involving another person. They will also familiarize themselves with ice rescue gear, including suits, ropes and more.
Members of the media are welcome to attend the outdoor training. There will be opportunities for photos, video footage and interviews.
