EAST LANSING, Mich. — In an effort to provide increased transparency, a new Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) log and online form are now available to the public on the City of East Lansing’s website. These new online features can be found at https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/163/Freedom-of-Information-Act-FOIA.
The FOIA log provides information about current FOIA requests submitted to the City of East Lansing, including the date the request was received, the requester’s name, the nature of the request, extension information, time spent/fees charged, the date the request was completed and the current disposition. This new log will be updated on the last day of each month.
The online form is part of a cloud-based, hosted solution by JustFOIA that will be used on a trial basis in an effort to establish a more efficient and cost-effective online system for FOIA requests that the City receives. Members of the media and public can use this new solution to submit and track their FOIA requests online. Email, fax and in-person FOIA request methods will remain available during this trial run of the new software.
“We are pleased to join several other municipalities in utilizing these types of online resources, which provide increased transparency to our FOIA process,” said East Lansing City Manager George Lahanas.
Questions can be directed to the East Lansing City Clerk’s office at (517) 319-6914.
