EAST LANSING, Mich. — Beginning Tuesday, May 28, phase two of a water main replacement project related to the Center City District redevelopment project will be taking place in the eastern half of the alley located behind the Grand River Avenue businesses between Abbot Road and M.A.C. Avenue. The first phase of the project took place in the western half of the alley and was completed earlier this month.
The work will include replacement of an old water main and new connections to businesses.
In order to ensure safety during the work, it is necessary to close the east side of the alley (from Lou and Harry’s to M.A.C. Avenue) as well as southbound M.A.C. Avenue, between Grand River Avenue and Albert Avenue, for approximately two weeks. Traffic headed southbound on M.A.C. Avenue towards Grand River Avenue will be detoured via Albert Avenue to southbound Charles Street.
East Lansing Department of Public Works staff will be on site throughout the project. City staff will be visiting businesses affected by the closure to coordinate access, trash and other issues.
