[ARCHIVED] 13th Annual Mayors’ Ramadan Unity Dinner to Take Place Wednesday, June 12

EAST LANSING, Mich. — East Lansing Mayor Mark Meadows and Lansing Mayor Andy Schor will be hosting the 13th Annual Mayors’ Ramadan Unity Dinner on Wednesday, June 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave. The featured keynote speaker is State Rep. Abdullah Hammoud.

With support from the Muslim community, the Ramadan Unity Dinner began 13 years ago as a way for the communities of Lansing and East Lansing to celebrate the diversity of the region and bring awareness to the plight of those who go hungry in our community. The event continues to embrace all community members — regardless of faith — so they can unite and work together toward a common goal. The theme of this year’s dinner is “FED UP with Hunger” and all proceeds of the event will go to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

Since its inception, the Mayors’ Ramadan Unity Dinner has grown to reach an audience of more than 400 people annually and has contributed more than $90,000 to the region's local food bank. An exciting evening is being planned for 2019, with great authentic Middle Eastern cuisine and an informative program. The celebration will be funded through sponsorships and ticket sales ($15 per student, $25 per individual, $80 per family/group of four). Sponsors will be recognized for their commitment to diversity and the fight against hunger.

Additional information, including sponsorship and ticket information, is available at www.cityofeastlansing.com/RamadanDinner. The deadline to submit sponsorship requests is June 1, 2019. Community members with questions can contact Emily Gordon at (517) 319-6869 or Leslie McCarrick at (517) 483-4145.
