EAST LANSING, Mich. — In observance of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the City of East Lansing will be hosting a Final Salute program on Sunday, June 9 at 2 p.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road.
The program will include a presentation of colors by the Lansing-based 1st Battalion, 24th Marines, 25th Marine Regiment; a keynote presentation from military historian Richard Cahow; and closing remarks from Retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. James Pocock. The program will also include a video, which will pay tribute to those who served in World War II.
“We hope community members will join us for this special D-Day Final Salute program,” said former Councilmember Beverly Baten – one of the organizers of the program. “It’s important for us to continue to honor those who lost their lives and those who bravely fought to protect our freedom on that tragic day and during the war to follow.”
Community members and area veterans are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served following the program.
