[ARCHIVED] Pilot On-Street Parking Changes Delayed to Allow for Additional Public Input and Consideration

EAST LANSING, Mich. — On-street parking regulation changes initially scheduled to be implemented this month in areas of East Lansing will be delayed until mid-July to allow for additional time for public input and consideration of potential changes to the current Traffic Control Orders.

The purpose of the pilot program, which is expected to be in place for approximately one year once implemented, is to limit on-street parking in areas where roadways are too narrow for safe, two-way vehicular travel. The regulations would also accommodate City services, such as curbside trash/recycling collection and snow plowing, as well as the travel of emergency vehicles.

The current Traffic Control Orders, as they stand today, can be viewed here: https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/DocumentCenter/View/8429/Parking-Traffic-Control-Orders-PDF.

Traffic Control Order No. 478 would eliminate on-street parking on seven streets (located throughout the City) with curb and gutter and a width less than 24 feet: https://eastlansing.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=1167&meta_id=76610.

Traffic Control Order No. 479 would implement a one-sided parking restriction in the portion of the Bailey Neighborhood bounded by Burcham Drive, Charles Street, Elizabeth Street, Bailey Street, Ann Street and Gunson Street: https://eastlansing.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=1167&meta_id=76608.

To ask questions of staff and request specific implementation information, community members can contact DPW Design Engineer Andrew Bisaha at abisaha@cityofeastlansing.com.
