East Lansing Talks About....A Series of Conversations about Mental Health and Wellness

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton-Eaton-Ingham Counties (CMHA-CEI); in partnership with the City of East Lansing, East Lansing Public Schools and Eaton RESA; is pleased to offer “East Lansing Talks About…” conversations about mental health and wellness.

CMHA-CEI and partners will be hosting “East Lansing Talks About…” at the East Lansing Public Library (ELPL), 950 Abbot Road, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. as part of ongoing efforts to educate and empower our communities about mental health and wellness. The first event will follow National Suicide Prevention week and will focus on the topics of suicide and self-harm.

The “East Lansing Talks About…” series is designed to provide education in a safe setting, while also offering resources and an opportunity to ask questions. A variety of mental health topics will be addressed and feedback will be requested from community members regarding future presentations. The initial series of talks will take place monthly at ELPL. Presenters will include local specialists from CMHA-CEI; Eaton Regional Education Service Agency; and others. The talks will be presented free of charge and will include light snacks as well as childcare available on site.

According to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline, “Evidence shows that providing support services, talking about suicide, reducing access to means of self harm and following up with loved ones are just some of the actions we can all take to help others.” East Lansing Talks About: Suicide & Self-Harm will provide education about what to look for and how to support those in your family, school and community who may struggle with these serious mental health challenges. By starting this conversation together, providing information on local and national supports and offering help to those who need it, a community can work together to play an important part in helping to save lives.

Community members can join the conversation at East Lansing Talks About: Suicide and Self-Harm on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. at ELPL. This event is open to all interested community members. For more information, please contact Jennifer Cronkite at (517) 346-8202 or
