Northern Tail Dog Park to be Closed for the 2022-2023 Winter Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Community members are reminded that the City of East Lansing’s Northern Tail Dog Park, located at 6400 Abbot Road, will close for the winter season on Nov. 30. It will re-open again in the spring.

The Northern Tail Dog Park was constructed in 2007. It offers 2 ½ acres of fenced and double-gated natural area for off-leash dog play including a 5,625-square-foot area for small dogs (under 22 pounds).

The Northern Tail Dog Park closes for the winter season to protect park grounds from wear and tear. Significant damage has occurred in previous winter seasons due to park use during freeze-thaw periods and periods when the soil was wet and muddy. The City completed extensive work to improve drainage and restore grass at the dog park in previous years.

Other City park facilities that close over the winter months include the East Lansing Soccer Complex, the East Lansing Softball Complex, the East Lansing Family Aquatic Center and all restrooms in City parks. Signs have been installed at the dog park to notify park users of the seasonal closure.

Community members planning to visit the dog park before its seasonal closure can refer to the dog park’s rules on the City’s website: https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/DocumentCenter/View/8495/Dog-Park-Rules-PDF?bidId=
