East Lansing Human Rights Commission to Host Next Coffee & Conversation at Farmers Market

Coffee & Conversation: Trans Rights "The Importance of Supporting our Trans Community" Sunday,

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The East Lansing Human Rights Commission (HRC) will host its next Coffee & Conversation session on Sunday, Aug. 20.

The HRC Coffee & Conversation series serves as a forum for community discussions on topics of diversity and inclusion. The topic of the Aug. 20 session is “Trans Rights: The Importance of Supporting Our Trans Community.”

Coffee & Conversation will be held from 12:30-2 p.m. at the East Lansing Farmers Market (ELFM), 280 Valley Court Park. The conversation will be held outdoors in Valley Court Park. All community members are invited and welcome to attend. Coffee will be provided by 517 Coffee, an ELFM vendor. A voucher for a single-sized coffee will be provided for participants to pick up at the Coffee and Conversation table. Additional beverages will be available for purchase.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) defines trans, or transgender, as an umbrella term for people whose gender identity is different from the sex assigned they were assigned at birth. This year alone HRC has tracked over 400 anti-LGBTQ+ bills in state legislatures across the country, nearly half of which target transgender and non-binary people specifically.

Additional Coffee and Conversation sessions will be announced as they become available at www.cityofeastlansing.com.
