No Left Turns from Lexington Avenue onto Burcham Drive Before/After School

No left turn onto Burcham Drive from Lexington Avenue Monday-Friday 8-9 a.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m.

EAST LANSING, Mich. — At its meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 9, the East Lansing City Council approved Traffic Control Order (TCO) 493 restricting left turns from Lexington Avenue onto westbound Burcham Drive from 8-9 a.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The traffic control restriction was proposed by the East Lansing Police Department due to concerns raised by residents and crossing guards about traffic at the busy intersection during before and after school hours.

Before the start of the 2023-2024 school year, the Department of Public Works installed several pedestrian refuge islands on Burcham Drive, including one at the intersection with Lexington Avenue. The pedestrian refuge islands are a tool to assist pedestrians crossing busy streets, especially near local schools.
