Master Plan Public Hearing to Take Place Wednesday, May 23

EAST LANSING, Mich. — A public hearing has been set for the possible adoption of the City of East Lansing’s new Master Plan – a broad-based policy document for the physical, economic and social development of a city as it relates to land use.

The public hearing will take place at the East Lansing Planning Commission’s meeting on Wednesday, May 23 at 7 p.m. in Courtroom 2 of the East Lansing 54B District Court. At this meeting, community members can share feedback and the Planning Commission will consider adoption of the plan.

The public hearing was preceded by a 63-day review process, which included four public input open houses as well as review by surrounding communities, the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, MSU, the Ingham County Road Commission, utility companies and state transportation entities. The feedback from the review process was compiled and forward to the Planning Commission to determine any additional changes to the draft plan. The plan and a list of the changes that were made to the plan can be viewed at www.cityofeastlansing.com/MasterPlan.

The City of East Lansing’s Master Plan has a long-range perspective that provides a coordinated approach to making important decisions as they relate to land use planning. The plan is the result of countless hours of work by the East Lansing Planning Commission, City staff, consultants, community volunteers who served on steering committees and others in the community who were a part of the public participation process.

“We would like to thank everyone who had a hand in the creation of this critical document that will help guide future growth in the City of East Lansing,” said East Lansing Planning, Building & Development Director Tim Dempsey.
